A little over a month ago, my cousin, Claire, married the love of her life, Ryan, on a beautiful September day in Sykesville, MD! I have had the great joy and privilege of photographing two of our other cousins’ weddings (and another cousin’s vow renewal) in the same church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. And while I love every wedding I photograph, it is extra special when I am asked to capture a family wedding!

The day started at my Aunt & Uncle’s house, a few minutes away from the church. Her bridesmaids were filled with family and friends, and it was so fun to be a part of the morning as my younger sister, Rosie, was the maid of honor! There are quite a few young kids and babies in both Claire & Ryan’s families, and the babies were all present during the getting ready, which was so cute.

Claire and Ryan opted to have a first look on the church grounds, allowing them to read each other’s letters and spend a few moments alone before the ceremony. It was such a sweet moment! Their Nuptial Mass was beautiful, and at various times the sunlight would stream down from the skylight windows and illuminate the rising incense, creating the most dramatic lighting!

Their reception was in the church hall, so while the guests made their way over to the hall, we headed outside to take their portraits. A few scattered storms were on the forecast, so we hurried through their portraits trying to eek out as much sun as possible. At one point, we had to go back inside as a sudden downpour hit, but thankfully it passed within 15 minutes, and the sun was back out as if nothing had happened!

Claire and Ryan, it was such a joy to photograph your wedding! I love you both, and I’m so excited to welcome you into our family, Ryan!
