When Danielle & Max reached out to me and asked if I was willing to photograph their Melkite Greek Catholic Wedding, I immediately said yes. I love learning about and photographing other traditions and it has been years since I last photographed an Eastern Catholic wedding.
In a Melkite Greek Catholic wedding, there are actually two ceremonies that take place: the Betrothal and the Crowning. The Betrothal takes place in the narthex of the church to signify the couple’s relationship in the world and then after they have been formally betrothed, they process into the nave of the church, signifying moving their relationship out of the world and into God’s hands. Once in the church, the Crowning ceremony takes place. Every aspect of both ceremonies is filled with so much rich tradition and beautiful prayers.
The rest of the day was also just as peaceful and beautiful as their wedding ceremony. Danielle and Max chose to get ready at their church and their reception was held at the church as well so we were able to stay in the same place all day which was really nice and made for such a relaxed flow for the day.
Danielle and Max also chose to do a first look and have all the photos taken before the ceremony so that after the ceremony, they could relax and hang out with their guests at the cocktail hour and reception without worrying about doing more photos.
Danielle and Max are both super intentional and kind people and it was obvious from the way they interacted with all their guests that making their guests feel special and taken care of was one of their main priorities for them.
One other thing to note before I stop talking and let the photos tell the story, Danielle and her bridesmaids did ALL the flowers themselves: their bouquets and all the flower arrangements in the reception. I was so amazed at how professional they all looked!
Danielle and Max, thank you so much for allowing me to capture your beautiful day!
Xoxo,
Mary Kate
