Brightly colored jewel tones, tiny bee charms, little jars of honey, gorgeous florals, and white flowering trees all came together to create a stunning backdrop for Emily and David’s April wedding. It’s been several years since I’ve photographed an April wedding (I was supposed to do several last April, but of course those got moved) and this was the perfect spring wedding.
As I mentioned in their engagement session post, Emily and David are such a fun couple to work with because of their quirky, down-to-earth, silly, and completely genuine personalities. Their wedding was a day full of laughter, dancing, praise and worship, good food, and family and friends and I don’t know if it can get much better than that.
Emily and David were married in Christ the King chapel on Franciscan University’s campus which was the most fitting location for them because Franciscan is where Emily’s parents met as well as David’s parents (they actually were all friends at school together) and then years later it is where Emily and David’s story began as well. This was actually my first wedding on campus and it was a treat to photograph one at my alma mater. After their beautiful wedding ceremony, we found a perfect spot of flowering trees on the campus for their photos and then we headed downtown for their reception at the Fort Steuben Ballroom. I had no idea this venue existed and it certainly does not look like it belongs in downtown Steubenville. To make this venue extra special, it is the same venue that David’s parents held their wedding reception over 30 years ago.
There were also so many fun details to photograph at this wedding. For starter’s, David’s mother decorated Emily’s wedding shoes: custom converse high tops, complete with tiny (and completely adorable) bee charms on the top of the socks. And then there were all the florals and glassware at the reception. Emily and her mom spent months creating a collection of eclectic jewel-toned glassware from thrift stores, flea markets, and yard-sales and the result was stunning. Each table had a slightly different colors scheme with unique wine glasses and goblets, and a variety of brightly colored vases and jars. It was truly spectacular and the vibrant jeweled colors fit Emily and David’s personalities perfectly.
Emily and David, it was so much fun to photograph your wedding and I hope you love scrolling through your wedding day!
Xoxo,
Mary Kate
