Joanna & Ben first met at the Newman Center at the University of Illinois, so it was only fitting for them to return to the very place their story began to start their married life together. Their wedding was also my first time on the University of Illinois campus, and I was blown away by its beauty!
After their Nuptial Mass at the stunning St. John’s Catholic Chapel, we stepped into the courtyard for wedding party portraits. The bridesmaids’ satin and chiffon gowns in varying shades of green paired beautifully with their elegant calla lily bouquets. Calla lilies aren’t something I see often in wedding florals, which made them feel all the more striking and unique and I absolutely loved them!
Their reception took place in the Illini Union ballroom, but before the celebration kicked off, we slipped into the surrounding gardens for a few more portraits. The timing couldn’t have been better—the sun was just beginning to dip, wrapping them in the most gorgeous golden light. With the three-tiered fountain, classic brick walls, and blooming white hydrangeas as a backdrop, their portraits feel timeless and refined!
Joanna and Ben, thank you so much for inviting me to capture your wedding day. It was such a joy to witness your love and document the beginning of this new chapter in your lives!
Xoxo,
Mary Kate
