Nathan & Susan’s wedding was held on the last Saturday of October at the absolutely gorgeous Morningside Inn venue in Maryland. I arrived there a little early which gave me time to walk around the grounds as the morning sunlight cast the grassy hills in a warm glow. As I walked around (successfully soaking my flats in the process), I knew this was going to be an amazing day and it most definitely was.
Probably the main reason this day was so spectacular is that Nathan & Susan are one of the most authentically joyful and delightfully exuberant couples I’ve had the privilege of photographing. They made my job so incredibly easy. They wanted to pray together before the ceremony and the only good spot we could find was in the middle of their reception venue where the arriving guests were walking through. However, for those five minutes, time stood still and Nathan & Susan were completely oblivious to anything and anyone around them. With tears flowing and gently whispered “I love you”s, this was easily one of the most touching moments of any wedding day I’ve witnessed. Shortly after, surrounded by their loved ones, they pronounced their vows overlooking the glorious autumn countryside. The rest of the day flowed impeccably, a beautiful dinner & toasts, and an amazing cupcake display – (the best part? Nathan’s sisters made all the spectacular and delicious cupcakes the day before!) Nathan’s many young and completely adorable nieces and nephews were literally the cutest little things and I had quite a lot of fun watching and photographing them throughout the day. Morningside Inn’s reception site is unique and gorgeous! It’s a renovated barn and the seated dinner took place in the upstairs room with the high ceilings and wooden beams and huge windows overlooking the pond and rolling hills. Once dinner was done we headed downstairs where the dance floor and cupcakes were located – then the real fun began. 😉 This was such a fun bunch on the dance floor and I definitely captured some of my favorite dance photos to date. At the end of the reception, Nathan & Susan let me sneak them out for the rest of their portraits, and I’m so glad we took the time for them because they are some of my favorites from the whole day.
Thank you, Nathan & Susan, for trusting me to capture your wedding day and for being willing to meander throughout the grounds for your portraits. It was a joy and honor to witness your love for one another.
xoxo,
Mary Kate
