Hey friends!
Four months ago I graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville. (I can’t quite believe it’s been four whole months already!). In the months leading up to graduation and in the months since I have been asked countless times the typical post-graduation life questions. What’s next? Where are you going? What job are you getting? Etc, etc.
Although I have a terrible track record when it comes to blogging regularly, I have shared a few scattered posts about my college adventures. (See: #FinalsWeek , Into the Great Unknown, When the Light was Golden, Spring Break in St. Louis, Cherry Blossom Portraits, 7 Tips to Successfully Run a Business as a Full-time Student, The Mountains are Calling, Austria // Four Months of European Adventures). So I figured it was only fair to write this post about the end of an era and what the future holds.
I majored in Catholic Theology with a minor in Human Life Studies but, no, I am not looking to get any job in my field of study. This photography business of mine has stayed small but steady over the past four years, and while it can be easy to compare myself to others whose businesses grew exponentially compared to mine, the bigger picture is that in God’s crazy providence, I have had the perfect amount of business to not become overwhelmed while being a full-time student and yet enough business to steadily support myself while I’ve been paying my own way through college.
Now that I’ve graduated, I can turn my time (and money — well, what isn’t going to my student loans) back to Mary Katherine Photography. I most likely will work little side jobs here and there over the next couple years as I find a firmer foothold in the wedding industry but the goal and dream is to be able to be doing what I love most – photographing weddings around the country (and world — if anyone wants to fly me to their exotic destination wedding, count me in!) for my living.
As far as immediate plans go, I moved back home, so I will continue to be based out of south-central Pennsylvania for at least this next year. These past few months have been spent doing a crazy amount of traveling for weddings and for fun. I spent two of the four months in Europe with my brother where we walked 500 miles of the Camino de Santiago from St. Jean de Pied, France to Santiago, Spain (a blogpost or two is in the works). I’m not 100% sure where I’ll end up next but for the time being, I’ve found that the best approach to post-graduation life is simply to take each day at a time and move forward step-by-step into the grand adventure God has ahead of us.
