There’s something incredibly special about photographing a friend of yours and her sweet man. Toni is a graduated household sister (Franciscan University’s version of a sorority) of mine (she was one of the very cool and beautiful seniors that welcomed me in when I joined DOZ as a timid sophomore). Toni and Adam met the summer after she graduated and with a mutual love for books, coffee, and the Catholic faith, their chance encounter turned into a friendship which quickly blossomed into a beautiful and deep relationship. Their story is a beautiful witness to God’s perfect timing and never-ending faithfulness.
Their engagement photos also happened to take place through God’s marvelous timing. On Thursday, Jan. 18th I found an email in my inbox from Toni with the subject: “I AM ENGAGED!” She told me that Adam had proposed to her the Monday before and she wanted more information about engagement photos. Last I had heard, Toni was in the D.C. area and with myself being, currently car-less at school in Ohio, I knew that meeting up for engagement photos might prove to be a bit of a challenge. However, as timing would have it, I was literally leaving for D.C. the very next day for the annual March for Life and I knew I would have a large portion of flexible free time on that Saturday the 20th. As crazy as the idea was, I emailed her back with the offer to make engagement pictures work that very weekend. Toni & Adam enthusiastically agreed and thus, only two days after their initial e-mail, and less than a week after Adam had proposed, we were walking around historic Georgetown on an absolutely glorious day taking their engagement photos.
I am so happy everything worked out because we literally could not have picked a better January day, it was high 60s and sunny (a far cry from the 19 degrees of my previous engagement session) We started off at Dumbarton Oaks Park and then wandered through the beautiful streets of the historic Georgetown district. Our plan was to end at the waterfront, but it was a busy Saturday evening and there was literally no parking anywhere. After driving around for several minutes while the sun sank progressively lower into the sky, Adam finally pulled into a no parking zone and we raced down to the waterfront praying his car would not be ticketed in the ten minutes we took along the river. Thankfully, his car was totally fine and our final pit stop was a tiny little bookstore in honor of their love for books. Toni & Adam were a joy to photograph and they are going to make an absolutely beautiful bride and groom come September. 🙂
