This wedding was a dream to photograph. I first met Caroline and Ross last year when we did their engagement session at sunrise in the Shenadoah Mountains. We got along instantly and they were both naturals in front of the camera and I have looked forward to their wedding ever since!
I started the day of with Caroline at a cute little brick airbnb a few minutes from their church. While I was with the girls, Deirdre met the guys at their hotel and I am so proud of the images she got with Ross and his guys!
Once everyone was ready, we drove over to their venue, the historic Meridian House in Washington DC. And oh my goodness, this place is spectacular. It was designed by renowned architect John Russell Pope, who also designed the Jefferson Memorial, the National Gallery of Art (West Building) and the National Archives. It was the ideal place for Caroline and Ross’s wedding as it fit their aesthetic perfectly. Their mutual love for art, books, and history was showcased in the beauty of the building from the grand staircase, to the library, to the courtyard with grand pillers and arched windows and everything in between.
Once at Meridian House, it was time for Caroline and Ross’s first look and private exchange of vows. Following this special time, we took all their portraits and the wedding party photos around the back courtyard and then it was time to get them married!
Just a short ride away, was the Church of the Holy City which Caroline and Ross chose for their ceremony location. Again, their love for history was highlighted in their church. After their ceremony, we took some more portraits at this gorgeous spiral staircase at the church.
At this point it was dark and it was time to get the party started! Once back at Meridian House, guests began to enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres while I captured the beauty of the reception space. Talk about dream reception spaces! I can’t decide if this whole wedding gives me more Beauty and the Beast vibes or Downton Abbey Vibes. Let me know which one you think it gives you!
Caroline and Ross, it was such an honor and joy to photograph your wedding and get to know you both over the last year!
Xoxo,
Mary Kate
