Caroline & Sean’s wedding day in Waterbury, Connecticut, felt like a dream! Although they booked me before I began offering two different editing styles, they asked to switch to Aurora when I launched it in April, and I’m so glad they did! From the delicate shades of pink, the gorgeous white details of St. Patrick’s Oratory, and the spring greens of the sweeping hills and weeping willows at The Barns at Wesleyan Hills, their wedding was absolutely made for the Aurora style.
Their day began at Caroline’s parents’ lovely home, which was such a peaceful setting to start the morning. I was welcomed in like family, despite not having met Caroline or Sean in person before their wedding day, because of the long distance between us. Caroline’s mom had transformed the living room into a bridal suite, and it was perfect for all the getting ready photos. I loved the precious moments Caroline shared with her mom and sister as they helped her into her dress. There is so much love in this family, and it was truly an honor to witness it.
When we arrived at St. Patrick’s Oratory, Caroline shared a first look with her dad on the church steps, followed by a first look with her two brothers. It was incredibly windy, and just as Caroline’s dad stepped outside to see her, the noon bells began ringing. It felt like something straight out of a movie. I captured some of my favorite candid images of the entire day during those two first looks.
Caroline and Sean were married in the Traditional Latin Mass, and I wish you could hear the music through these photos because they had a truly stunning choir. In a TLM wedding, the sacrament of marriage takes place directly after the procession and before Mass begins, so that the first act the newly married couple does together is to participate in the Sacrifice of the Mass. There is something so beautiful about photographing a couple in the very place where they just exchanged their vows and received the Eucharist together for the first time as husband and wife, which is why I always love taking portraits of my brides and grooms in their church. However, there was something about the Aurora style paired with the colors and textures of St. Patrick’s Oratory that made these some of my favorite church portraits I’ve ever taken.
Their reception at The Barns at Wesleyan Hills was an absolute blast! We took wedding party photos and the rest of their portraits on the beautiful grounds while their guests enjoyed cocktail hour, and then it was time to celebrate! I don’t think Caroline stopped smiling all day, and when Sean looks at her, it’s as though the whole world fades away and all he sees is her.
Caroline and Sean, thank you so much for choosing me to be your wedding photographer. It has been such an honor to get to know you both and to document your beautiful, beautiful wedding day.
